Vinyl, Vision, and the Value of Passion: The Journey of G. Segurola

G. SEGUROLA

G. Segurola is a Miami-born DJ and producer whose journey began with a $250 Numark controller and a determination to fill a void in his circle. What started as open-format sets at birthday parties and small gigs quickly evolved during the pandemic, where hours of practice turned into a sharpened ability to mix and read a room. By 17, his discovery of Michael Bibi, PAWSA, and Dennis Cruz pulled him deeper into the underground sound, and a life-changing 16-hour night at Space cemented his drive to pursue house music seriously. From private events to his first club gigs at La Rouge, Segurola learned through trial, error, and persistence — building the grit that still defines his artistry today.

In college, he earned a residency at Tallahassee’s Ten Lounge, shaping his sound while contrasting Miami’s scene with new influences. Returning home, he dove into production, teaching himself Ableton and slowly carving out a style rooted in Solid Grooves-inspired energy and vinyl-driven minimal house. Now with about 150 handpicked records, he’s brought his craft full circle, recently delivering his first pure vinyl mix for The Groove Palace. More than just the music, Segurola carries a perspective anchored in gratitude, reminding himself — and others — to focus less on the chase for validation and more on the passion that fuels it. His TGP039 mix is both a milestone and a statement: a young artist building intentionally, with patience, persistence, and a love for the journey.

Roots in Miami

Born and raised in Miami with deep Cuban roots, G. Segurola (Gabe) grew up immersed in music from the very beginning. Early on, it wasn’t house music that defined his soundtrack, but Miami bass, breakbeats, and hip-hop — the energy of Pitbull, 2 Live Crew, and the Beastie Boys blaring in his headphones and car speakers. By the time he hit high school, music wasn’t just a pastime; it was shaping his outlook and fueling his curiosity.

From Necessity to the Decks

Before DJing was a career path, it was an opportunity. G. noticed a gap: there weren’t many DJs in his circle, and with his sharp ear and natural curiosity, he decided to fill that space himself. In early 2020, just before the pandemic, his father bought him his first controller — a modest $250 Numark board. What started as experimenting quickly turned into grinding out private gigs, birthdays, and even restaurant sets.

With each performance, G. learned how to read the room, play for diverse crowds, and balance what he loved with what kept dancefloors moving. By the time clubs reopened post-pandemic, he was battle-tested, confident, and ready for bigger stages.

The Space That Changed Everything

March 2022 marked a turning point. On spring break, G. and his friends decided to hit Club Space for Solid Grooves’ first Miami takeover. At only 19 years old, he managed to finesse his way past security with borrowed credentials. What followed was a 16-hour marathon that shifted his perspective forever.

From Michael Bibi’s sunrise set to PAWSA’s unforgettable 2 a.m. performance, G. witnessed the essence of house culture in its rawest form. It wasn’t just music — it was storytelling, community, and a glimpse of the level he wanted to reach. That night, he knew he wanted to dive deeper.

Discovering Vinyl and Intentionality

A year later, another pivotal moment arrived. In June 2023, G. saw O.Bee (Oza) play a full vinyl set at Space. The dusty grooves, punchy kicks, and unfiltered warmth of the records resonated on a level digital files never could. From then on, vinyl became his obsession.

He started digging, discovering labels like Pilot and Geralda, spending hours at Miami’s Teabag Records, and carefully building a collection of around 150 handpicked records. For G., vinyl wasn’t just about nostalgia — it was about discipline and intentionality. Each record was a commitment, a choice, and a story waiting to unfold.

The First Pure Vinyl Mix

That discipline culminated recently with his first pure vinyl mix, recorded for The Groove Palace. For G., it wasn’t just another set — it was a milestone. It showcased his growth, his ear for selection, and his ability to shape an atmosphere from the first track to the last.

With vinyl, mistakes can’t be hidden, and selections can’t be scrolled past. Every moment is live, raw, and unrepeatable — exactly the kind of artistry G. wants to bring to every room he plays.

Lessons in Gratitude

When asked about his journey so far, G. doesn’t talk about validation, fame, or chasing clout. Instead, he reflects on gratitude.

“Focus less on the future and more on the present. It’s important to be grateful to even have a passion.”

In a world where comparison and social media pressure can cloud creativity, G. grounds himself by remembering that simply having something he loves — something that excites him, drives him, and inspires him daily — is a gift.

Advice for the Next Wave

For those looking to break into the scene, G. emphasizes patience and resilience. DJing, producing, and building a career in music won’t happen overnight — and it shouldn’t. Mistakes are part of the journey, and setbacks are lessons, not barriers.

His biggest advice:

  • Be intentional. Don’t just play what’s trending; play what resonates.

  • Build grit. If something can go wrong, it will — but each challenge makes you sharper.

  • Stay grounded. Never forget how lucky you are to even be passionate about something.

Looking Ahead

With two releases already under his belt and a growing vinyl collection that fuels his sets, G. Segurola is carving his lane with patience, persistence, and purpose. His story is only beginning — and as he continues to dig, create, and evolve, one thing is certain: every room he steps into will feel his passion.
