Cam Jones: From Tupelo to the Dancefloor

CAM JONES

This week, The Groove Palace heads to Miami with Cam Jones — a rising DJ and producer from Tupelo, Mississippi, known for blending soulful textures with hypnotic house grooves. With roots in jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, Cam brings a versatile sound shaped by years of musical curiosity and a deep connection to emotion.

Now based in Miami and producing full-time, Cam is quickly carving out a name in the city’s underground — with a growing catalog of originals, a flair for tasteful edits, and a production workflow fueled by raw inspiration. His exclusive mix for The Groove Palace captures that spirit: a carefully crafted set made for late nights and locked-in dance floors. Now streaming on The Groove Palace SoundCloud.

Before he was producing genre-blending house tracks in Miami, Cam Jones was just a kid from Tupelo, Mississippi, falling deeply in love with music. Raised in a biracial household with parents who introduced him to a spectrum of genres—from soul and R&B to hip-hop and rock—Cam’s musical roots were as eclectic as his future sound.

The Moment Electronic Music Hit

Cam's first real exposure to electronic music came via YouTube. A video of Deadmau5 performing live at the Shrine Auditorium changed everything. “Being in Mississippi, I’d never seen anything like that. I knew right then—I wanted to make music that could move a crowd like that,” he recalls.

From GarageBand to Ableton

With a school-issued MacBook and a drive to create, Cam dove into GarageBand in middle school. He eventually joined band, chose trumpet as his instrument, and even spent time as a dancer—each step bringing him closer to the rhythm-driven artistry he channels today.

Finding His Sound

Now based in Miami, Cam describes his music as emotional, euphoric, and eclectic—deep grooves that translate to long nights out. He fuses soulful textures with hypnotic beats, taking inspiration from a wide range of genres and visual mediums. “I pull more from video games, graphic design, and movies than I do from other music,” he says. “I want my tracks to feel like art.”

Remix Culture & Workflow

Cam is a proud remixer. “Remixes are a cheat code,” he says. “If you make something people already love but flip it your way, it’s easier to win them over.” When he’s not reimagining vocals, he builds from drums or melodies, guided by mood and instinct. His recent studio time with Peeslo leveled him up even more—especially in the mixing department. “He showed me what’s possible. There’s no plateau.”

Community and Creative Growth

Relocating to Miami marked a turning point. For the first time, Cam was surrounded by a creative community that understood his vision and gave actionable feedback. “Back home, people supported me, but they didn’t always know what I was going for. Here, everyone gets it.”

Now producing full-time, Cam has finished over 17 tracks in just two months. “My creative bubble is protected now. I finally feel encouraged to be myself.”

Setting the Mood in a Set

As a DJ, Cam aims to create the kind of experience where time disappears. “I want people to forget the world for a while. To make new friends, dance freely, and live in the moment.”

Cam’s Mount Rushmore of Influences

His top four inspirations? Chris Lake, Diplo, Daft Punk, and Calvin Harris. “They’re all different, but they showed me that you can be versatile and still sound like you.”

What’s Next

Cam’s momentum is only building. His Groove Palace mix is a taste of what’s to come—emotive, groovy, and polished. He dreams of one day hearing his tracks played by Mochakk and performing at Factory Town’s Cypress End stage.

Final Words of Advice

“There’ll be times when you feel like no one’s listening,” he says. “But if you love this, really love it, that won’t stop you. Don’t do it for clout. Do it because you need to. Because it makes you feel alive.”
